Thanksgiving
Monday, 06 November 2017

This Thanksgiving, the Humane Society of Dallas County would like to take a moment to share our gratitude and thanks to all of the many people who make running this shelter possible.

HSDC is thankful for all of the financial supporters who give your monetary support to our shelter. We’ve renovated the cat rooms, dog runs, cages, and numerous items in our shelter because of your generosity. Without you to help us operate we would have to close our doors. You are invaluable to the maintenance and smooth running of our shelter.

We’re thankful for all of the volunteers who donate their time to really help us out. You come out to events, you foster our youngest and special needs animals, you raise awareness and you raise money through our annual raffle. This job would be too overwhelming without your assistance making it all possible. This includes our Luv-a-Pet volunteers who go to the PetSmart adoptions center to spend time with our cats, and our Adopt-a-Pet volunteers who come out to our weekend dog events to show off our dogs. We also are thankful to our in-house shelter socializers and our dog walkers. You make sure our animals receive individualized social attention and focus in order to help them shine for the people who want to give them a forever home.

We are also thankful to our webmasters Cristina and Gabriel of low-fat cats design and to our social media correspondents. You keep the public informed of everything that’s going on at the shelter and give out all the information about our animals, our needs, special circumstances and events in an internet age where what is online is what brings the focus to our shelter and our cause.

All of us working together help make a huge difference in the lives of the animals in our care. We at the Humane Society of Dallas County rely on every person who brings their time, talent, and help to us in order to give the animals in our care a second chance at tomorrow. Thank you!

October Adoption Specials
Wednesday, 04 October 2017

This month why not consider bringing home a companion that needs a forever home?

There are several dogs here that need a second chance but are often overlooked. These dogs are so eager to find a forever home and we’re eager to give them that chance! That’s why, for the month of October, our long-term residents have a special $100 adoption fee!

Right now available for this special adoption rate are dogs like Bosco, who loves to fetch and play in the yard and gets along with everyone, but somehow is still at the shelter; Evander, who loves water, ropes, snuggling for pets, and needs an active person playmate; Haven, who is hearing impaired but she looks to you for love and reassurance; Murphy, who is a little bit older, but, goodness, how well behaved and smart! We also have Zumi, Abner, Ziggy, and Buddy, who are also long-term residents and just as deserving of a second chance. Why not give some consideration to these great lifelong companions!

Right now we’re running a special adoption fee of $50 this month for all of our cats! Because it’s October we are making an exception to this with our black cats and want to responsibly encourage their safety this month. Therefore, black cats’ adoption rates for October will continue to be $100. All of our cats come spayed/neutered, with vaccinations and microchip.

You can’t lose! Stop by today and see if your next forever friend is here waiting for you.

Give to the HSDC for North Texas Giving Day!
Monday, 28 August 2017

The Humane Society of Dallas County is participating in the ninth annual North Texas Giving Day on September 14, 2017! You can give to our shelter by going to NorthTexasGivingDay.org on September 14 between 6 AM and midnight to make a monetary donation that will provide much needed funds to our shelter.

Any donations $25 to $50,000 will be multiplied by $2.5 million in bonus funds and prizes and if Humane Society of Dallas County receives a donation we’ll receive a portion of the bonus funds. As a 501.c3 non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of all our donors and all we do could not be made possible without all of your charitable contributions.

Scheduled Giving Opens September 7 at 8 AM!

Don't forget that this year donors can schedule their gifts before North Texas Giving Day! Scheduled giving opens on September 7 at 8 AM and goes through September 13 at midnight! Kittens Galore
Friday, 16 June 2017

‘Tis the Season and kittens abound! When springtime arrives so do kittens, and this year is no exception. As always, it’s an important reminder to spay and neuter your animals to reduce all the homeless kittens in shelters.

Here at the Humane Society of Dallas we have several of them in need of a good home. There’s no shortage of assortment here with kittens of all colors and types, from short-haired to long, tabbies, Siamese, and even the often overlooked black kitten.

Come see if there’s a little one who steals your heart and can make their forever home with you.

Our dog runs are getting a makeover!

Starting on May 8th the shelter will be doing a major renovation to improve our dog run and kennel area. During this time our dogs will be in foster care and not on location at the shelter. To visit with a dog you’re interested in, please fill out an adoption application.

While our dogs are not in shelter we are still open and we have plenty of cats and kittens to visit and adopt.

Just in time for Mother's Day, we are highlighting all the great mother cats awaiting adoption at Dog & Kitty City/HSDC. All of these furry moms arrived at our shelter doorstep with a litter of babies and some of them even did double duty nursing abandoned kittens that may have arrived as stragglers. These lovely spayed moms are available for a special adoption fee of $50 during the month of May.

We're located at 2719 Manor Way, Dallas, TX 75235. Shelter hours are 11:45 AM - 5 PM, closed Tuesdays and holidays. Phone: 214-350-7387. Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Danielle was found running at large -- nursing at large -- with her little brood of kittens. She came to us for help placing the kittens and finding her forever home.

This little beauty has a feisty spirit, but a great big loving heart. She will entertain you with affection and playfulness, if you just give her a chance.

Georgia was adopted as a mom cat last year but had to be returned to the shelter after her owner suffered a stroke.

Georgia is just 2 years old. She is a sweetheart and loves to play and snuggle. She will make the perfect cat for any family. She gets along well with children and other cats.

Pretty Gloria was surrendered with her babies, Guy, Gus, Gwen, and Gunner, who are utterly adorable and ready for their forever homes. Gloria will be a fantastic addition to a loving family. She is super sweet and gentle and loves canned food. As a young mom, Gloria still has a lot of love to give, and she wants a forever home with lots of love and laps to lay in. Please come and meet beautiful Gloria, and she will steal your heart away.

Spring Is Here, but So Is Puppy and Kitten Season!
Friday, 24 March 2017

In every community in every U.S. state, there are animals sitting in shelters waiting for homes. Only about half of those dogs and cats will ever get one. If they’re in a kill shelter then the other half will be euthanized.

Now is the time to make a change. This season thousands of kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs can be saved from euthanizing for room in kill shelters simply by being fixed. We cannot afford to think of spaying and neutering animals as optional; it’s a legal must and for good reason! Around 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States simply because they do not have homes. These high numbers are the result of unplanned litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering.

Low cost to free spaying and neutering is available in every area all over the country. Call your local animal control to get more information. Let’s stop senseless euthanizing of innocent kittens and puppies by starting with spaying or neutering pets.
