Sophie was a stray who followed her now foster mom home during one of her daily walks. She had a couple of wounds on her skin and was not wearing a collar. She was a street dog who insisted she wanted a home - Ms. Sophie is so sweet that her foster mom could not turn her away. She was taken to the vet and has received the best of care. Although they would love to keep Sophie as part of the family, this is not possible because they have a 15-year-old dog with her own health issues. Sophie’s just a little too energetic for the older dog.
Sophie has short light brown fur with white markings. The veterinarian estimates that she is 9 to 12 months old. She weighs 38 pounds and the vet does not expect her to get much bigger. She’s a sweetie who just wants to give and receive affection. She plays well with a younger dog in the family which includes lots of tug-of-war games and chasing each other around. Given her age, it is not surprising that she also loves chew toys.
Sophie has made great progress transitioning from street dog to fitting in with her current household. She’s not completely house trained, but they are getting close. She’s also getting accustomed to a leash and is starting to learn good doggie manners. Sophie is comfortable in a crate when no one is home and during sleeping hours. When someone is home and awake, Sophie has the opportunity to run around (or sleep) both inside the house and in the yard.
Sophie is a dog who is eager to please which is a great trait that should allow her to fit in easily to a loving home. Since she’s still young she needs a family willing to give her a moderate amount of attention and exercise – with that, she’ll be a devoted (and hopefully well-behaved) companion.
Sophie is in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you would like to meet or ask other questions about her, please contact
