Janis Joplin sang "freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose," and she could have been singing about Fred and Ginger (pictured here). Someone set them "free" to fend for themselves and scrounge for food and shelter in the Irving river bottoms. Separately or together, we do not know, but they were found together, a bonded pair.
As dogs "running at large" will do, they tried to avoid capture. (Who can blame them for doubting the sincerity of humans who caused their dilemma in the first place?) Luckily for them, a persistent Animal Control Officer wanted to help them. When he caught Ginger, Fred "danced" peacefully to her side, not about to lose his only friend. They would not be separated.
They just arrived at DKC and are being examined and treated for neglect and fleas and lack of love. Through it all, both are incredibly docile, affectionate, loving dogs. While we get them ready for placement into a forever home, they could use some Guardian Angels to get them through their barrage of medical tests and treatments to restore them to health. If you can help, please make a donation to support a second chance for this incredible pair.
Let's work together to get them both into a permanent forever home.
Please join us every Saturday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at PetSmart in Dallas (@Inwood and Forest) and help get our Fidos adopted! Even if you can't volunteer for the whole day, please consider transporting the dogs!
